Getting Started

Installation

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does GeoFilterX determine account locations?
A: We use the location data Twitter/X already collects from user profiles. This information exists but is hidden behind multiple clicks. GeoFilterX simply makes it visible in your timeline.
Q: Can accounts fake their location?
A: Some can, but most don't. Coordinated influence operations rely on volume—they can't manually configure thousands of accounts. GeoFilterX catches the vast majority of foreign operations.
Q: Why don't I see flags for all accounts?
A: Not all Twitter/X users have location data in their profiles. GeoFilterX can only display flags for accounts that have publicly set their location.
Q: Does this collect my data?
A: No. GeoFilterX runs entirely on your device. We never collect, store, or transmit your personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Will this slow down Twitter/X?
A: No. GeoFilterX uses intelligent caching and adaptive loading to ensure zero performance impact. The extension is only ~50KB and highly optimized.
Q: Is this about censorship?
A: No. It's about transparency. You should know where information is coming from so you can make informed decisions about what to trust. You have complete control over which locations to filter.
Q: Why focus on foreign accounts?
A: State-sponsored influence operations are documented, widespread, and specifically designed to manipulate citizens of other countries. Geographic origin is critical context for evaluating potential disinformation.
